Overall Report

Catch statistics of Lake Constance Fishery 2024

At 121.3 t (2.2 kg/ha), the total yield of professional fishermen on Upper Lake Constance in 2024 represents a new low after the previous nine years of historically low yields. Whitefish with 37.9 t (31.2 %) and perch with 27.0 t (22.3 %) accounted for the largest shares of the total catch, followed by pike with 15.9 t (13.1 %), eel with 9.4 t (7.7 %), catfish with 7.8 t (6.4 %), carp with 7.6 t (6.3 %), bream with 4.4 t (3.6 %), pike-perch and tench with around 3 t each (2.7 and 2.1 %), whitefish with 2.8 t (2.3 %) and lake trout with 1.2 t (1.0 %). All other fish species remained below 1 t. As a result of the whitefish conservation measures established for the years 2024 to 2026, whitefish were only landed in spawning fisheries and in very small quantities as bycatch in the reporting year.

At 52.3 tons the catch of anglers was 13.2 % higher than in the previous year and 10.2 % above the 10-year average. The increase in yield is due to catches of carp and caprinids, which together accounted for 38 % of the total yield. Compared to the previous year, there was an increase in lake trout and catfish catches with a simultaneous decrease in char and pike-perch catches.
